Coincidentally, when I was planning a trip to New York City, I found that I could travel from Washington D.C, to NYC by train. This is how I ended up seeing the cherry blossoms in DC.
I was happy that I made it to DC to see the cherry blossoms. At first I was concerned that I wouldn’t make it in time to see them before they fell since I arrived after their blooming season. However, Tidal Basin was in full bloom! The photo above doesn’t do justice on how beautiful the trees around Tidal Basin were.
The weather wasn’t the greatest when I first arrived. It was chilly and cloudy. When I got to Tidal Basin, I was surprised to see how enormous the area was. There was plenty of room and time to walk around the lake. There wasn’t a moment that I didn’t have the chance to capture the perfect Instagram-able photo.
Close up of Cherry Blossoms
The cherry blossoms in Washington D.C, were very vibrant and pretty. With the sun out, they looked much lovelier! I’m very happy I made the extra stop in DC to see them.
The national blossom festival
I happen to arrive on the last day of the National Cherry Blossom Festival and managed to buy some souvenirs!
I bought a postcard and a pin. I can never say no to a collectible pin! ( ´ ∀ `)ノ～ ♡
From all the cherry blossoms that had fallen to the ground, I also decided to take one and dry it! Remember if you’re taking one as a souvenir, don’t pick the flowers from the trees since it could damage them; pick them from the floor instead.
lucky dc sunset
In terms of outdoor beauty, I think nothing out did the cherry blossoms, except maybe this beautiful picture of a DC sunset; it was marvelous!
I took this photo near the Lincoln Memorial.
Would I go again? Probably.
I didn’t get to experience much of Washington D.C. I I went back, I would stay longer and visit the places I missed. I’ve heard cherry blossoms look more beautiful in Japan so that’s my next goal! While it was nice seeing them in the U.S, I think most enthusiasts feel very different about seeing the real thing in the land of origin.
I finally went to Japan and had Cherry Blossom Ice Cream in Ueno Park!
