I found this Suntory Gokuri grapefruit juice in a beautiful bottle at Mitsuwa Marketplace in Chicago. The colors were so vibrant on the bottle that I dropped it in my basket without reading what it was.
The whole time, I thought it was orange juice until I took a sip and tasted how tart it was.
There is nothing truly special about this juice. It’s simply grapefruit juice! The reason I’m doing a review on it is because it’s one of the best grapefruit juice I’ve ever had. Also it’s Suntory brand, a very popular beverage brand in Japan. You can find a list of their other products on their website.
It’s hard to find good tasting grapefruit juice in the U.S in my opinion. It’s either too sweet because they add too much sugar to it, too sour because they don’t add enough sugar to it or too watery because it’s a cheap brand. This juice was one that I enjoyed because it tasted just right.
It’s not too sweet and not too sour. It tasted just like orange juice but with a slightly tart flavor. The flavor was strong to me. It made me want to enjoy the drink a bit more slowly.
It’s common for citruses to be very acidic to the taste, especially grapefruit but this didn’t feel like it was eating away at my mouth or lips. It was smooth and fluid.
This cost me $1.99USD.

Would I buy it again? Yes!
I actually been looking for the Suntory Gokuri (ごくり) grapefruit in other Asian stores because I can’t seem to find it anywhere anymore. I really enjoyed drinking it. The bottle is so pretty and durable that I’ve been reusing it. Since it’s made out of aluminum, I didn’t have to worry about the bottle secreting chemicals into my liquids like plastic does.
