ハニップC: Japanese Citrus Kumquat Water!

I was surprised to find that the same brand of the ハニップC: Plum Water made other flavors. I bought the ハニップC: Citrus Kumquat Water at the Hmart in downtown Chicago.

I had no idea that it was citrus or that the fruit inside was a kumquat. I actually bought this because I was looking for the ハニップC: Plum Water and found this one. I should have read the back but I assumed it was a small peach.

If you’re wondering what a kumquat is, it’s a citrus fruit a bit larger than a grape. It looks similar to an orange but is a mix of sweet and tart in flavor. It wasn’t until after had this drink that I found out there’s an art to eating kumquats!

PRICE
This was $2.50USD.

TASTE
When I first took a sip I was very surprised, mainly because I didn’t expect a citrus flavor. The drink tasted like a mix of oranges and lemons. It’s rather acidic too. I had a cold at the time and it felt great on my rough throat but I will admit the acidity was a little too much for me.

KUMQUAT
I had no idea that this was a kumquat. In fact, this is my first time every eating a kumquat. I thought this was a small peach until I bit into it. I know, even after drinking this juice and being surprised that it was a citrus flavor and not peach, I still didn’t read the ingredients to see what it was. Honestly, I was grossed out. The inside of the kumquat is like a very seedy cherry tomato. When I say this thing popped in my mouth when I bit it, I mean it. If you’re squeamish, be prepared. I personally don’t like cherry tomatoes on less they’re sauteed so this really grossed me out and it was hard to eat with all the seeds and fruit chunks in my mouth. I finished it of course. The fruit itself is pretty tasty but I don’t think I’d eat it whole; I’d want the seeds out of it.

Would I buy this again? Probably not.

I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the ハニップC: Plum Water. If they had some other flavors I would love to try them but it looks like this company only produces the plum and kumquat flavors only. I thought a peach or grape would taste really good!
