Right next to the Arome bakery shop, I found this small burger shop selling cheap 肉夹馍 (ròujiāmó) burgers. I decided to stop by right before I was going to leave Hong Kong. I bought 2 ròujiāmó: 1 chicken and 1 pork.
It’s a very tiny shop. At first I thought it was a storage place for one of the restaurants next to it because of all the boxes around it. When I saw the menu, I then thought it was a closed down restaurant until they eventually opened and I saw people going in. The workers there speak enough English to take your order.
If you didn’t notice yet, this place is a take away only place. There isn’t anywhere to sit down and eat. You simply go up, order, leave or stand outside to eat if you plan on ordering more. Either way, there’s a nearby park, the waterfront or you can sit by the Hong Kong Science Museum.

Regular Ròujiāmó – $20HKD ($2.55USD)
This is supposed to be a regular Chinese burger. It was actually a whole chicken fillet instead of the cubed or chopped meat I’m used to getting with this type of sandwich. It was a bit spicy; not chili or jalapeno spicy, more like a black pepper spicy. I thought I could taste a bit of star anise or cinnamon and maybe like a sweet soy sauce flavor. I personally thought they added too much mayo since it literally poured out as I bit into the sandwich. It was also similar to Japanese mayo which is slightly sweet. It did have a very thin leaf of lettuce in it which I thought was odd because it added nothing to the sandwich.
Pork Ròujiāmó – $20HKD ($2.55USD)
The pork chop burger was a bit shocking. It was a whole pork chop with bones and all. The meat was tough and like the chicken ròujiāmó and it had way too much mayo. There was so much mayo, I couldn’t taste much of the meat. The meat didn’t taste that different from the chicken; other than being pork, I’d say it was pretty much the same.
Would I buy it again? Probably not.
I’d consider trying something else on the menu but that whole pork chop with bones in a bun really shocked me. Not to mention the excessive amount of mayo! The seasoning was delicious but I would be weary about buying ròujiāmó from them again. The meat definitely needs to be a lot more tender.
