I Try The Delicious Taiwanese Mango Shaved Ice at 潮社冰品 (Chaoshe Ice Fruit Room)!

Last Updated on 2022/04/06

I spent about 4 days in Taipei before I finally decided where I wanted to try Taiwanese Mango Shaved Ice and it was at this place called 潮社冰品 (Chaoshe Ice Fruit Room) after I check out the Niangxi Night Market.

There’s plenty of places to eat shaved ice and it was very obvious that mango was one of the top favorite flavors in the country of Taiwan. I wanted to eat at Smoothie House but tried it at 潮社冰品 instead since it was a very hot day and I wanted something refreshing.

About 潮社冰品

I don’t know much about 潮社 冰品 except that it’s at the very entrance of the Niangxi Night Market if you enter from Nanjing W Rd. Based on what I found on the Gomaji website, ” 潮社冰品 ” translates to Chaoshe Ice Fruit Room. Check out the website for more vibrant photos of the menu items they have to offer.

In addition to hand-made bean curd, traditional shaved ice, dense snowflake ice and other sweet soup ice products, the store also provides pearl fresh milk tea that everyone loves, as well as warm and stomach-warming, healing hot sweet soup and burning fairy grass. Each is a classic delicacy prepared fresh daily! Want to taste the most authentic desserts in Taiwan?

They don’t have a website but you can look at more photos on their Facebook Page or Google Images.

What is Taiwanese Shaved Ice?

Taiwanese shaved ice is called Tsuah Ping / Tsua Ping (礤冰 or 剉冰) or Baobing (刨冰). It’s also known as snowflake ice. Whatever you decide to call it, it’s a dessert you won’t want to miss if you’re ever in Taiwan. Taiwanese shaved ice mirrors Kakigori, the Japanese shaved ice, since it was introduced in the country by the Japanese when they ruled over Taiwan.

The snow like texture of the ice makes it an extremely decadent treat that absorbs the flavored syrups poured over the ice. Common ingredients are sugar water, condensed milk, nuts, azuki (sweetened red) beans, jellies, mung beans, fruit (based on the season) and tapioca balls.

Check out their menu above. I’m not quite sure if this is their entire menu but it’s the menu they have taped to the tables for easy ordering.

That’s one of the best things about many Asian countries, menu items are easy to order because you can just point at the picture if you don’t speak the language.

I ordered the mango shaved ice with mango: $100TWD = about $3.58USD

Other mango shaved ice are available for an extra cost like the mango shaved ice with tropical mango: $180TWD = about $6.45USD.

You could also build you own like mango shaved ice and add strawberries instead or any other ingredients.

Mango Shaved Ice with Mango Ice Cream

When the clerk gave me the dish, I was surprised by how big it was. I was overwhelmed by how orange it looked too. I was certain it was going to be delicious and have a strong mango flavor.

I was first amazed by how soft the ice felt in my mouth. It truly is like snowflakes! With every spoonful it felt like I was eating a whole mango; it was so decadent and juicy. The mango chunks were very ripe and sweet. This was honestly the most mango flavored dish I’ve had in my life. I couldn’t imagine anything else that could be added to make it more like mango.

Half way through I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish the dish. I got to the bottom but there was still quite a bit left that I couldn’t finish. These are big enough to share with 2 – 4 people to be honest.

Would I buy Taiwanese Mango Shaved Ice here again?

Answer: Yes.

Worth Trying: Many times!

I loved the Chowking Halo Halo. I wish I could’ve had it more times. It tasted just as good as it looked. The colors were so vibrant, it made me happy just by looking at it! (´。• ω •。`) ♡ Next time I’d like to try their other options, like the Milky White Halo Halo.
