Barista DyDo Coffee & Collecting Dragon Ball Z Mini Figures!

Barista DyDo Coffee & Collecting Dragon Ball Z Mini Figures!

As soon as I arrive in Japan, I stop by a 7-Eleven and find DyDo Coffee is promoting Dragon Ball Z by adding collectible mini figures.

Naturally I was downing coffee to collect all the characters. ☆*:.。.o(◕ヮ◕)o.。.:*☆

Cost

I don’t quiet remember the price but coffee like this in Japan is pretty inexpensive. I’d say each can was between $150 – $300YEN = about $1.30 – $2.60USD.

Location

You can find DyDo Coffee anywhere in Japan but I only found the figures sold mainly in 7-Eleven’s. They could be in other shops but that’s where I found mine.

Taste

It was a semisweet blend and it was actually pretty good. It was bittersweet but enjoyable; if you’re not a black coffee drinker, I think you’d like this.

The Figures

Each figure has a standing platform included except for Chiatsu (kanji) who ironically was sold in the most meme way possible. I mean it’s one of the most messed up and mocked deaths in DBZ cannon. I couldnt stop laughing when I saw it.

I wasn’t able to find any other figures. While I was in Sapporo, I found 2 and while I was in Sendai, I found 1 more. After that, it was hard keeping track and eventually I forgot because there were so many other things to buy and collect in Japan, it was hard to keep track.

dydo coffee goku

Goku (Kakarot)

You can see that the figures a small but still detailed and well put together. Goku’s figure is of him holding a spirit bomb (if you recall the scene). You can see from my photo that the figure is sturdy enough to hold another figure (Wonder Woman LOZ blocks) that’s much bigger and heavier. It was quiet easy to balance the figure too. I was pretty impressed that it held together so well.

dydo coffee vegeta

(Prince) Vegeta

From Vegeta’s pose you can tell all the figures have some kind of function based on some iconic scene in Dragon Ball Z. Seeing his hands placed the way they are, it reminds me of his Galick Gun (ギャリック砲) attack.

The figures purpose is to hold pen up? I didn’t really understand it. I thought a chopsticks holder would’ve been better but you know, cool place to put you pen/pencil I guess.

dydo coffee chiaotzu

Chiaotzu (餃子)

Okay, let’s talk about Chiaotzu! It’s so messed up that his figure is in the position in which he died against Nappa (ナッパ). 。゚(O _ o)゚。 I’ll admit out of all the figures I managed to collect, he was the most practical. He worked wonders on that sticky note. I feel bad saying that and yet at the same time it’s hilarious. o(≧▽≦)o Meme worthy!

I thought his figure was the most messed up but I saw Yamucha’s (ヤムチャ) figure online and that just made everything even more hilarious.

The staff

At the Sapporo location, the staff were so polite and sweet. When they realized I was trying to collect all the figures, they tried helping find as many as they could from their inventory in the back storage. They asked me specifically who I was looking for and I responded with Piccolo. The male staff rushed to the back to look but said they didn’t have any other characters except for what was on display (which I had already bought). He apologized and I said it was fine but thank you.

Looking back, even with my not so great Japanese, we were able to communicate just fine.

Would I buy the coffee again? Yes.

Funny thing was, I actually enjoyed the coffee. They had other flavors available as well so if this particular can doesn’t do it for you, you can try other DyDo products.

It’s unfortunate that I didn’t get to collect all the figures in time before I left Japan but I was happy that I got a few of them either way. DyDo does other collaborations so if you find yourself in Japan, make sure to check for other anime figures tied to bottles of coffee.
