I Finally Try the New L’Orange DUFF Soda From the Simpsons!

There I was at 5 Below again and spot the DUFF Soda from the Simpsons. In the show DUFF is the beer most of the characters drink and it’s something many people wondered about including me.

Location

I found this at 5 Below.

I’m sure you can find it in any novelty store or a comic book store as well.

Cost

This cost me $2USD plus taxes.

I’ve always been curious about the DUFF soda but I know how novelty snacks work and I didn’t want to be disappointed. Also since originally it’s supposed to be beer, I really just wanted a DUFF beer! (/^///^/)

I always imagined the beer tasted creamy and hoppy. I don’t like hoppy beers but I still want to taste DUFF beer.

Taste

The name of the soda is DUFF L’Orange, meaning that it’s orange flavored soda. Still I imagined it wouldn’t be too good but I hoped it would taste similar to Sunkist.

I was right, or at least to me the soda wasn’t very good. It wasn’t too sweet and the taste of orange faded as I swallowed. I didn’t enjoy drinking it. The smell is very strong which is whyI was a little excited initially. The color of the soda is deep orange, almost blood orange. I also noticed, the carbonation didn’t last long. I left the soda sitting for a few hours, maybe 3 or 4 and the fizziness was gone. I don’t think I’ve ever had a soda lose it’s carbonation so fast. I wouldn’t mind that if it wasn’t that the soda wasn’t very good.

Duff soda nutrition
Nutritional Facts

So I was very impressed with how many vitamins the drink had which really makes up for the subpar flavor.

Definitely something to watch out for if you have any dietary requirements/restrictions.

Ingredients

The vitamins they added to the drink are also listed in the ingredients.

  • carbonated water
  • sugar
  • citric acid
  • natural flavor
  • potassium citrate
  • sodium citrate
  • potassium sorbate (preservative)
  • sodium benzoate (preservative)
  • magnesium citrate
  • inositol
  • FD&C yellow 5
  • sucralose
  • niacinamide (vitamin B-3)
  • FD&C red 40
  • calcium pantothenate (vitamin B-5)
  • pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B-6)
  • cyanocobalamin (vitamin B-12)
Would I buy this again? No.

I’ve had other drinks that are rich in vitamins and are meant to be dietary supplements that tasted better so I think I’d rather drink those over this. When I bought this DUFF soda, I never looked at the details either; good thing to note is that it says right on the can that it’s a “sparkling beverage” and not a soda.

I will give the necessary acknowledgement: 25% of 4 vitamins in a 12fl oz (335ml) is impressive to me.
