Review: Nongshim Onion Rings (양파링), One of My Favorite Korean Chips!

nongshim onion rings chips

After years of eating these, I’m finally writing a review about the Korean Nongshim Onion Rings.

I love onion and garlic flavored things, so naturally these were one of my first Korean chips to taste.

Nongshim is a pretty big company in South Korea that sells many popular items. Check out their website for more information!

I bought this at Super Hmart in Niles, IL.

These are pretty easy to find. You can find them in nearly any Asian grocery store.

This cost me $2.49USD.

These taste like wheat chips with very light onion flavor. It’s also very light in salt. They’re airy like puff chips and crunchy; they remind me of Mexican chicharrones (Duros). To be honest, a little hot sauce and lime, maybe some Tajin too, would be great.

Nongshim Onion RIngs VS Funyuns Comparison

These are different from funyuns in that Funyuns have harder texture, they’re saltier and have a stronger onion taste. Each chip has it’s own charms. I don’t eat Funyuns anymore but they used to be my favorite chip because I loved the onion taste without needing to actually fry real onion rings. I like Nongshim Onion Rings more now because of their puffy texture but they’re still crunchy and aren’t too salty.

One of my favorite things about it is recognizing the chip from Korean TV shows that I watch. There’s always a game where these chips are used in Korean Variety TV like Running Man.
