Review: I Try The Zambos Camote Sweet Potato Chips!

I was not excited about trying the Zambos Camote Sweet Potato chips. After trying different flavors of the plantain chips, I thought maybe the Zambos brand could change my mind on my sweet potato dilemma.

To be honest, I’ve never liked orange sweet potato. It just doesn’t taste good to me. It’s particularly too sweet. I have yet to try it but I’m certain that orange sweet potato should only be served as a dessert; maybe then I could actually stomach the taste.

You can use their store locator to find Zambos in a store near you.

This cost me $2.49USD.

Before I even opened the bag, I knew I wasn’t going to like this; I could smell the sweet potato through the bag. It was a little surprising opening up the bag because the chips kind of looked burned but I’ve never fried sweet potato before so I don’t know how it’s supposed to look like. Given the image on the bag, I expected the chips to be bright orange.

Nevertheless, I only ate a couple of the chips before I couldn’t deal with the taste anymore. If you like orange sweet potato, I can assure you that you would love these. The reason I can say that is because I don’t like sweet potato at all. Even though I didn’t enjoy the chips I could tell the flavor was really strong and that the sweet potatoes chosen to make the chips were good. The ingredients should tell you even more; they only use sweet potatoes, palm oil, salt and TBHQ (preservative). That’s nearly 100% sweet potato in the bag!

Would I buy Zambos Camote Sweet Potato Chips again? No.

I definitely recommend these to people who love sweet potato. The ingredients show that it’s practically pure sweet potato in the bag. While these chips didn’t convince me that sweet potato is yummy, maybe some other dish or snack might.
