Review: New Lays Layers Sour Cream And Onion!

Last Updated on 2022/03/09

When I spotted the new Lays Layers Sour Cream And Onion in store, I thought, “wow, these look like chicharrones“. That’s the only reason I decided to try them.

Chicharrones are pork rinds but vary slightly from country to country. I was hoping that the texture of the chips would be similar even though they weren’t really chicharrones.

Product Description

Introducing NEW Lay’s Layers: a multi-dimensional, one-of-a-kind potato bite with layers of delicious crispiness. Bite-sized, flavorful, and crispy, Lay’s Layers are perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a mid-afternoon snack, you’re enjoying them on the go or a post-meal treat at home to help you relax and unwind.

I was expecting a little more from this. Lays Sour Cream & Onion were one of my favorite chips growing up so I expected this to be a new twist to a classic favorite. It just felt like there was less seasoning than the original chips. Maybe it’s because the seasoning didn’t get in between the layers of potato enough but to me, the flavor was very light compared to the original chip.

I loved the layering of the potato however. The crunchiness of the chips had similar “chicharrón” level crunchiness. o(^ – ^ o)

I got these at Five Below.

I also saw the same size sold at Walmart for the same prize. I also saw 2/$1USD small sized ones at Woodman’s Market.

Would I buy Lays Layers Sour Cream And Onion again?

Answer: No.

Worth Trying?: Not really.

Except for layered potatoes, there’s nothing truly new about this. The flavor was too faint to me and the layers didn’t really add much for me. I think if they used new flavors instead of existing ones, I would’ve been more excited.
