The first time the Hostess Cotton Candy Twinkies were released, I couldn’t find them. It wasn’t until now that I finally found them in stores. At first I wasn’t interested but before leaving the store, I grabbed a box.
The first time I tasted the Hostess Cotton Candy Twinkies was at the Wisconsin State Fair where they served them deep fried on a stick with blue and pink icing drizzled on top and sprinkled with edible glitter.
It’s been years since then and I was curious if it still tasted the same or maybe I could recreate the deep fried Twinkie.
On the box it says, “golden sponge cake with artificially flavored cotton candy creamy filling”.

As good as artificially flavored creme can taste, I thought the Hostess Cotton Candy Twinkies were good. The taste of cotton candy was light and blended well with the original creme flavor. It tasted like an in between of a very faint cotton candy flavor and pink bubble gum. The Twinkie cake had the same quality all other Twinkies have: spongy, moist, greasy and buttery.
To be honest, it’s a flavor you either like or dislike. It’s not fantastic but it’s also not horrible. I enjoyed the box I bought; I’d say a smaller box would’ve been even better since 10 cakes is a lot for me. Still, I would recommend others try these at least once.
I got these at Woodman’s Market.

Would I buy the Hostess Cotton Candy Twinkies again?
Worth Trying?: At least once.
I intended to try half of the Twinkies as they were and then use the second half to recreate the Unicorn Twinkie. I’ve never deep fried a Twinkie before but I hope it turns out well. For a box of 10 cakes, I think most adults would get tired of the flavor pretty quickly but I think it’s great if shared with others or if used for to-go meals.
